Yoga

Yoga, The Permaculture of Zone 0

One of the challenges of the life here at Re-Green is not to lose ourselves in the numerous, different tasks and levels of an autonomous life. Everyday necessary tasks like cooking, caring for the living beings of the farm, gardening, harvesting, building, hosting, chopping wood, running courses … and actively being out in the countryside until the sun sets, all this external practices may occupy completely the time one may allocate to look internally and care for his own wellbeing. In the beginning of the project there have been quite some times of physical exhaustion and symptoms of neglection of the body, the mind and the spirit.
Yoga came to counter balance the excesses of overworking and to offer as we say the “internal permaculture”. Caring for the earth begins with caring and nurturing oneself. Building awareness of where the body holds tension, practicing to release and connect to our internal infinite beauty became a fully appreciated everyday medicine. Awakening early in the morning to reach for the sun or restoring ourselves in the quietness of the dusk’s twilight oh yes…brought bliss, harmony, relief, centering and so much gratitude.
The resident Yoga teacher of Re-Green is Amber. She keeps the whole team in shape, uniting us in the everyday circle of Yoga, offering selfless service and walking her talk, tuning us to bring the sun or the moon out on the vast skies of our mountains. Amber speaks the language of the nature through her devoted practice of Yoga.

Intuitive Farming: The Emerging Movement

The impulse for this event came when Eleni Gkikakis approached Dr Saskia von Diest to use the opportunity of her visit to Crete for the 13th European International Farming Systems Association Symposium, to present something specifically on intuitive farming. Saskia agreed, and Eleni introduced her to Flery, from Re-Green. Together, they welcome you to a one-day introductory event on the emerging movement of intuitive farming.

Please read the following information before booking your place. This is a one-day introductory event on the emerging movement of intuitive farming. Please read the following information before booking your place. We look forward to seeing you!

WHY ATTEND THIS EVENT?

Current large-scale agricultural practices will not be able to meet food security and sustainability challenges in the next decades, and a radical transformation of our food-growing practices is needed.
The use of intuition and other subtle abilities to make practical management decisions in a food-growing context, whether agricultural or gardening, has received little attention in scientific research until recently, but it is now fast becoming a new field of research. Researchers are learning that farmers prefer using these abilities, consciously or unconsciously, often with greater success than using tools designed using science. Their decisions are also often more ethical and in harmony with the balance offered by natural systems when using their subtle abilities consciously.

Some farmers and gardeners also make use of intuitive communication with nature to obtain more information about their plants, animals and landscape. They often see great benefits in doing so for their management decisions, such as reduced inputs, greater outputs and higher profits. But little is known about this in science.
The concept of communicating with nature is not new and appears to be a common thread in indigenous cultures worldwide. It is documented in books and documentaries, and practised in subsistence and small-scale farming, as well as in food production in eco-villages around the world, such as Findhorn Foundation, Damanhur and Auroville. Rudolf Steiner, the Austrian philosopher and founder of anthroposophy, mentioned it in his Biodynamic agriculture lectures, although it is often over-looked by biodynamic farming practitioners.
It is not known how information is transferred during intuitive communication. Although almost a century of scientific evidence supporting the concept of telepathy (human-to-human and interspecies) is possible, many scientists continue to dismiss it as pseudoscience. However, quantum physics has provided more widely accepted evidence for theories on how the universe operates at a sub-atomic, quantum or energetic level, so the concept is receiving renewed attention.

Regardless of the mechanism behind these subtle abilities, it is clear that they are useful to food-growers, because many already use them. Researching the use and development of intuition and interspecies communication in agriculture is already part of the urgent radical transformation needed to improve efficiency and sustainability.
But as the urgency increases, one of the most important questions is: HOW do we empower and assist farmers in developing their subtle abilities, to more consciously and confidently make more efficient management decisions that are in harmony with nature? In this one-day introductory workshop, we will be focusing on the theory and practical development tools towards answering this question.

WHAT TO EXPECT

– A brief presentation on the latest scientific advances in using intuition and interspecies communication for food-growing and gardening (Saskia)
– Q&A session and dynamic group discussion (Saskia and Eleni)
– An exploration on basic practical development techniques for intuition and interspecies communication. This may be outside, so please bring a hat, natural insect repellent and sunscreen (Saskia and Eleni)

The event will be presented in English, but questions can be answered in Greek by Eleni, if needed.

SASKIA BIO

Dr Saskia von Diest obtained her PhD in Plant Pathology in 2013, and from 2014 until 2017 she held a postdoctoral research position at Stellenbosch University, South Africa, to explore quantum-based techniques and technologies in agriculture, such as those using sound, electromagnetics and intuitive abilities. Her passion for knowledge extension from research to practice inspired her to bring various international experts to host workshops in South Africa, and build a wide network of farmers, technical advisors and researchers for this emerging field of resaerch.
She currently holds a joint postdoctoral research position at the Centre for Complex Systems in Transition, Stellenbosch University and the Centre for Agroecology, Water and Resilience, Coventry University, UK, to further explore the practice and development of intuitive farming.
Part of her work is helping to critically evaluate how modern science can be applied for this kind of research, to help develop new methodologies for intuitive farming and for agricultural research in general. She uses transdisciplinary, participatory and transformative research approaches, co-creating with those who practice food-growing, who play the most important role in the story of this emerging movement.

ELENI BIO

Eleni Gkikakis holds a BSc Hons in Mass Communication and Media Arts from Southern Illinois University, USA. During her studies she specialized in Marketing and Advertising of companies in the service sector and minored in Speech Communication and International Relations. Since her return to Greece after her studies, she worked in the Client Service departments of numerous national and multinational advertising agencies.
Her childhood love for nature and animals caught up with her, and inspired by Juliette De Bairacli Levy, she pursued independent studies on holistic nutrition therapy, naturopathy and herbalism. In 2006 she completed her Diploma in Veterinary Homeopathy and founded White Flower Holistic Animal Care. Her understanding of subtle energies led her to develop her intuitive interspecies communication ability with well-known South African animal communicators Anna Breytenbach and Wynter Worsthorne. Her now uses these skills in her work on a daily basis, with much success and to the surprise of conventional veterinary practitioners.
Eleni also gets actively involved in numerous conservation projects in Africa, such as the Global White Lion Protection Trust, and independent peacemaking groups. Since 2016 she is a devoted and active member of Dr Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Greece.

The Equanimous Heart 2018

The Equanimous Heart | A Vipassana Retreat w/ Whit Hornsberger

The mindful practice of insight meditation (vipassanā) is considered to be the direct path laid down by the Buddha himself for the purification of beings, for the overcoming of sorrow and lamentation, for the disappearance of pain and grief and for the complete cessation of all forms and levels of physical and mental suffering (dukkha).
Through the application of mindfulness (sati), concentration (samādhi) becomes increasingly more refined, providing a stable platform for the intimate investigation into the phenomena of mind (nāma) and body (rūpa). Through patient endurance and ardent effort we begin to find refuge within the ever increasing equanimity of the heart-mind, a spacious, unshakable vantage point from which to see into the ultimate reality of our psycho-physical embodiment. Through direct-felt experience insights arise, propelling the practitioner to a compassionate understanding of the laws that govern life and subsequent wisdom capable of freeing each of us from the self-generated suffering of mind.

In this eight day silent retreat we will apply the systematic methodology of the revered Burmese meditation master, Mahasi Sayadaw. Mahasi’s accessible, yet potent, scientific approach to the study of consciousness gives rise to transformative insight into the true nature of the mental (nāma) and physical (rūpa) phenomena, that which forms the bedrock of our human experience.

As knowledge is born that all psycho-physical phenomena are transient (anicca), unmanageable and beyond our control (anattā), attachment (taṇhā) to them dissolves, dispelling the fires of greed (lobha) and aversion (dosa). In the wake of their cessation, the heart-mind becomes spaciously equanimous, liberated from suffering, beautified by insight.

The great Burmese Master Mahasi Sayadaw’s approach to meditation is very clear, very precise and ‘to the point,’ faithfully adhering to the method of the Buddha in his own successful search for Enlightenment. Whit Hornsberger’s experiences of intensive monastic meditation in Burma, combined with his studies of Yoga and other forms of Eastern Spirituality, have given him a unique ability to communicate to Westerners a classical approach to meditation, one that is deeply rooted in the profound Burmese tradition.

This silent retreat will include sitting and walking meditation, daily yoga practice and interviews with the teacher.

***What is Dāna?***

The Buddhist teachings have always been considered to be priceless and thus have traditionally remained outside the realm of commodification. In Whit’s many years as a student and teacher of vipassāna he has always received his transmission of the teachings from his teachers by way of dāna or the practice of generosity and we are honoured that he has decided to offer this retreat at Re-Green no different than those he teaches in his home country of Canada, by dāna.

The practice of of vipassāna is designed to reduce the conditioned defilements of the mind – greed (lobhā), anger (dosa) and delusion (mohā).

In the words of revered meditation master Mahāsi Sayadaw:

“The aim of this practice and its greatest benefit is release from greed, hatred and delusion, which are the roots of all evil and suffering.”

Thus the practice of giving from the heart (dāna) was applied to the tradition by the Buddha to help release the heart from the shackles of greed. Whit is adamant that the future of our species and our planet depends on dissolving the greed that has become so inherent in our societies. The offering of this retreat to you by way of dāna and your support of the teachings by way of dāna is not only of benefit for those attending retreat but is placing faith in each other that we can move in a more altruistic direction as a human family.

How much should I give for dāna?

This is a frequently asked question that is difficult to answer. When you consider that the teacher receives no wage, no payment other than your basic offering, all in return for the service of helping you, for giving teachings, private counselling and guidance, then you should be motivated, we think, to give very well indeed.
Offering Dana is a personal spiritual “practice” and thus requires a deep look into yourself — what do these teachings really mean to you? How valuable are they? What does it mean to you to be able to be a part of a tradition based on generosity? What can you truly afford in expressing your gratitude and support for what your teachers offer to you and the world? At the end of the retreat you will be given an empty envelope. Please use this opportunity to show your gratitude. Your donation is private and, if you prefer, anonymous.

Group packages available, please ask.
A deposit of 150€ is asked to hold your place.
**this retreat is offered to 20 participants only

Website – https://www.soularchyoga.ca/

Whit Hornsberger is a driven, passionate and inspiring being.
Driven by an innate belief that each of us is capable of radical, spontaneous evolution, Whit’s unrelenting determination and commitment to applying and sharing ancient wisdom as a catalyst for individual and in turn social change has seen him become a highly sought after teacher all around the world.
Through direct personal suffering Whit has devoted his life to the powerful, life-changing and for him, life-saving wisdom of the ancient traditions of Classical Yoga (Patañjali) and Theravada Buddhism. His life has become a medium through which he humbly transmits the teachings of the past in a colloquial manner to students from all walks of life, emphasizing that freedom from suffering is not only possible but is an endeavour that ought to be taken up by each of us.
Whit is an ardent student, whose commitment to awaken beyond the limitations of his own conditioned mind has led him around the world, from monastic experience in Myanmar (Burma) to dedicated study in revered yogic institutions of India (Kaivalyadhama), solo retreats in the forests of Canada and the United States, urban study with senior teachers within the Krishnamacharya lineage (Ramaswami) of traditional Vinyasa Yoga and seemingly everywhere in between.
Those dedicated efforts have resulted in a teacher who embodies the path with integrity and authenticity, whose compassion and loving-kindness for each student he meets is palpable and whose drive to create social change and a better future for our species and planet is evident to anyone who has the fortunate opportunity to study with Whit.
International classes, workshops, intensives, retreats, conferences, online practices and trainings are the ground from which Whit guides practitioners towards embodied well-being. His teachings faithfully adhere to the Vinyasa Krama method of the father of modern yoga, Sri T. Krishnamacharya, the Mahasi Method of vipassana (insight) meditation passed down by the late, venerable Mahasi Sayadaw (Burma) and his unique integration of Buddhist psychology with the contemporary practice of yin yoga.
Whit firmly believes that in order to move forward we must look to our past and the wisdom of our ancestors. As an internationally recognized teacher Whit continuously ensures that he honours the ancient wisdom traditions that saved his life, emphasizing through action that he is simply a medium through which the knowledge can continue to be past down, undiluted, for generations to come.

Holistic Herbal Home

We shall discuss wellbeing & the diversity within a balanced lifestyle, Forage for food & herbs, walk, collect flowers & seeds and learn the healing qualities within the abundance of nature. About the Maloca / Shala
Our Maloca/shala is a 100sq/metre octagon, built with local, natural materials. A reciprocal beam structure roof covers the walls and windows hosting different natural techniques and is able to be heated by a very efficient wood burning rocket mass heater. It is entirely built by volunteers, helpers and ourselves and has pillows, carpets for comfort. Located within Re-Green’s property it overlooks the green forest on the south and the blue greek sea on the north. We simply love it.
