sweet dreams @ the guest house

guest house or pandocheon @ re-green

A 250 years old stone built house, carrying along a small history within its walls which goes back to the times when Greece was enslaved by the Turks. At that time it was the house of the Tax Collector of the Ottoman army, whilst after the nation’s liberation, a female Primary School was established there and served until 1903. Later on and until 2008 when it was purchased and renovated by Re-Green it served as a private home.
The building is a typical traditional house consisting of two floors. The ground floor was used to store goods and shelter the animals while the upper floor was the main residence. The roof is pitched and simple four-sided. The main, if not exclusive constructive materials ware stone and wood while earth was used as the main binder.

Last but very important for the history of this house and its surroundings is that it drew the attention of the Archaeological Authorities, as only 50cm under today’s surface, archaeological treasures where encountered, dated around the 5th century BC.

The metamorphosis of the “House of the Pashas”, as it was previously known, to Re-Green’s Guest House was carried out with the invaluable help of the architect in our family, Mina Alexiou, and the unique artistic taste of our interior designer, neighbour and friend, Martik Manikian.

After the renovation and restoration, today this historical building consists of 5 rooms. Every room is different, however all of them offer a combination of a traditional essence and are made by natural local materials and as much as possible energy saving techniques and solutions. We offer shared accommodation, in our spacious and split level rooms, with natural coconut bedding/ mattresses and private bathrooms.

We like to think that we offer shelter to our guests, inside the wilderness of the mountain, with the cosiness and warmth of our wood stoves in the winter and the coolness of the stone walls in summer, whilst visitors are here to open, learn and expand in nature.
