The Equanimous Heart 2018

The Equanimous Heart | A Vipassana Retreat w/ Whit Hornsberger

The mindful practice of insight meditation (vipassanā) is considered to be the direct path laid down by the Buddha himself for the purification of beings, for the overcoming of sorrow and lamentation, for the disappearance of pain and grief and for the complete cessation of all forms and levels of physical and mental suffering (dukkha).
Through the application of mindfulness (sati), concentration (samādhi) becomes increasingly more refined, providing a stable platform for the intimate investigation into the phenomena of mind (nāma) and body (rūpa). Through patient endurance and ardent effort we begin to find refuge within the ever increasing equanimity of the heart-mind, a spacious, unshakable vantage point from which to see into the ultimate reality of our psycho-physical embodiment. Through direct-felt experience insights arise, propelling the practitioner to a compassionate understanding of the laws that govern life and subsequent wisdom capable of freeing each of us from the self-generated suffering of mind.

In this eight day silent retreat we will apply the systematic methodology of the revered Burmese meditation master, Mahasi Sayadaw. Mahasi’s accessible, yet potent, scientific approach to the study of consciousness gives rise to transformative insight into the true nature of the mental (nāma) and physical (rūpa) phenomena, that which forms the bedrock of our human experience.

As knowledge is born that all psycho-physical phenomena are transient (anicca), unmanageable and beyond our control (anattā), attachment (taṇhā) to them dissolves, dispelling the fires of greed (lobha) and aversion (dosa). In the wake of their cessation, the heart-mind becomes spaciously equanimous, liberated from suffering, beautified by insight.

The great Burmese Master Mahasi Sayadaw’s approach to meditation is very clear, very precise and ‘to the point,’ faithfully adhering to the method of the Buddha in his own successful search for Enlightenment. Whit Hornsberger’s experiences of intensive monastic meditation in Burma, combined with his studies of Yoga and other forms of Eastern Spirituality, have given him a unique ability to communicate to Westerners a classical approach to meditation, one that is deeply rooted in the profound Burmese tradition.

This silent retreat will include sitting and walking meditation, daily yoga practice and interviews with the teacher.

***What is Dāna?***

The Buddhist teachings have always been considered to be priceless and thus have traditionally remained outside the realm of commodification. In Whit’s many years as a student and teacher of vipassāna he has always received his transmission of the teachings from his teachers by way of dāna or the practice of generosity and we are honoured that he has decided to offer this retreat at Re-Green no different than those he teaches in his home country of Canada, by dāna.

The practice of of vipassāna is designed to reduce the conditioned defilements of the mind – greed (lobhā), anger (dosa) and delusion (mohā).

In the words of revered meditation master Mahāsi Sayadaw:

“The aim of this practice and its greatest benefit is release from greed, hatred and delusion, which are the roots of all evil and suffering.”

Thus the practice of giving from the heart (dāna) was applied to the tradition by the Buddha to help release the heart from the shackles of greed. Whit is adamant that the future of our species and our planet depends on dissolving the greed that has become so inherent in our societies. The offering of this retreat to you by way of dāna and your support of the teachings by way of dāna is not only of benefit for those attending retreat but is placing faith in each other that we can move in a more altruistic direction as a human family.

How much should I give for dāna?

This is a frequently asked question that is difficult to answer. When you consider that the teacher receives no wage, no payment other than your basic offering, all in return for the service of helping you, for giving teachings, private counselling and guidance, then you should be motivated, we think, to give very well indeed.
Offering Dana is a personal spiritual “practice” and thus requires a deep look into yourself — what do these teachings really mean to you? How valuable are they? What does it mean to you to be able to be a part of a tradition based on generosity? What can you truly afford in expressing your gratitude and support for what your teachers offer to you and the world? At the end of the retreat you will be given an empty envelope. Please use this opportunity to show your gratitude. Your donation is private and, if you prefer, anonymous.

Group packages available, please ask.
A deposit of 150€ is asked to hold your place.
**this retreat is offered to 20 participants only

Website – https://www.soularchyoga.ca/

Whit Hornsberger is a driven, passionate and inspiring being.
Driven by an innate belief that each of us is capable of radical, spontaneous evolution, Whit’s unrelenting determination and commitment to applying and sharing ancient wisdom as a catalyst for individual and in turn social change has seen him become a highly sought after teacher all around the world.
Through direct personal suffering Whit has devoted his life to the powerful, life-changing and for him, life-saving wisdom of the ancient traditions of Classical Yoga (Patañjali) and Theravada Buddhism. His life has become a medium through which he humbly transmits the teachings of the past in a colloquial manner to students from all walks of life, emphasizing that freedom from suffering is not only possible but is an endeavour that ought to be taken up by each of us.
Whit is an ardent student, whose commitment to awaken beyond the limitations of his own conditioned mind has led him around the world, from monastic experience in Myanmar (Burma) to dedicated study in revered yogic institutions of India (Kaivalyadhama), solo retreats in the forests of Canada and the United States, urban study with senior teachers within the Krishnamacharya lineage (Ramaswami) of traditional Vinyasa Yoga and seemingly everywhere in between.
Those dedicated efforts have resulted in a teacher who embodies the path with integrity and authenticity, whose compassion and loving-kindness for each student he meets is palpable and whose drive to create social change and a better future for our species and planet is evident to anyone who has the fortunate opportunity to study with Whit.
International classes, workshops, intensives, retreats, conferences, online practices and trainings are the ground from which Whit guides practitioners towards embodied well-being. His teachings faithfully adhere to the Vinyasa Krama method of the father of modern yoga, Sri T. Krishnamacharya, the Mahasi Method of vipassana (insight) meditation passed down by the late, venerable Mahasi Sayadaw (Burma) and his unique integration of Buddhist psychology with the contemporary practice of yin yoga.
Whit firmly believes that in order to move forward we must look to our past and the wisdom of our ancestors. As an internationally recognized teacher Whit continuously ensures that he honours the ancient wisdom traditions that saved his life, emphasizing through action that he is simply a medium through which the knowledge can continue to be past down, undiluted, for generations to come.

Our Practices

Yoga
In our Hatha Yoga practice – a unifying blend of Breath, Asanas, Anatomy & Meditation – we will focus on grounding the base (1st) chakra, deepen our knowledge for our pelvis, liberate the hip joints and enjoy standing strongly in our two feet. We will aim to root like the Trees and free our upper body to connect with the Sun.

ImPulse Dance
We begin by grounding ourselves, in the safe space of a circle, shaking and pulsing to release tension, increase blood circulation and connect with the cosmic energy of the Earth. As we pulse in different levels, our breath expands into sound and our voice can be liberated. We enter a state of profound ancestral connection and our shaking movements awaken the sacredness of our body and manifest the power of its expression.

Sharing Circle
We will sit in circle as a tribe, holding a safe and sacred space for one another. We will share our intentions for new beginnings and set the foundation for our soul to give us what we need at the present moment in time.

Nutrition
Our vegetarian nutrition will follow the philosophy of self-sufficiency and sustainability, with fresh vegetables and fruits from the garden of Re-green, cultivated with love and care. Simple Greek tastes will offer you pure, therapeutic and delicious meals. An experience to remember on Sunday afternoon- the garden –stone oven – Pizza Party with garnishes of your choice

Plasters and Paints 2018

Plasters and Paints – Natural Building Course
lime / earth / gypsum / natural paints

We are thrilled to announce that Luis and Monica, masters of plastering and building techniques, will be teaching a very special course on September regarding Natural Materials for a Healthy and Durable construction this September at Re-Green. Both of them carry a deep and explicit knowledge and experience around natural building techniques for interior and exterior, that can take our constructions to the next level. The point where your natural build house needs something more to be your dream-house, here is when Luis and Monica come along. All that you need to know for the refining, finishing, the colouring, the smooth surfaces, for ceilings, floors, walls, bathrooms, kitchen decks and more, with the techniques of tadelakt, stucco, plastering and painting will be offered in detail in this 9 day intensive, interactive and hands on course. This is one of the very few courses that Luis will be offering in English so this is a real opportunity for our Natural Building community. Their profound knowledge will lead us in a time travel to learn the ancestral techniques that are inherited by our ancestors and then we will land to the present to talk extensively and cover the theoretical part of the course where your projects with your queries will be covered. And then practice comes where we will explore the boundless possibilities of natural materials lime, earth, gypsum and natural paints. With this course we can become the craftsmen of our own building projects for healthy, durable and state of the art results.

Plaster and Paints – Natural Building Course

lime / earth / gypsum / natural paints

1-9 September 2018

Natural Materials for a healthy and durable construction course aims to unfold some of the ancestral techniques to cover walls, floors, ceilings and outdoors. Practices of plastering, stuccos, tadelakt technique and paintings with traditional formulas elaborated by hand exploring LIMEs, GYPSUMs, EARTHs and natural COLORS.

This course is an intensive 9 days offering interactive practical and in depth theory sessions daily and most evenings ~ requiring full attendance moving as a group, therefore even local attendees are expected to stay on -site – please also expect to have fun!

Basic outline of the course
This course includes

  • Deep Knowledge and ancestral techniques: We intend to share a deep and complex knowledge as much as exciting and beautiful, on the natural matter and the ancestral techniques that we have inherited after thousands of years of practice.
  • Theory and Practice : We will combine theory and practice, in a permanent coexistence, stimulating curiosity and experimentation.
  • Learning the Materials : We will begin by familiarising ourselves with the materials: their origin in the territory, their transformation and manipulation to become a construction material, their cycles, their combination with other materials, the preparation of the mixtures, etc.
  • Samples and Tests: We will work on samples and tests that help to understand the behaviour of each material according to its nature and the technique used.

For example:

– what are the keys in the kneading of the plaster for the execution of a stucco, in comparison with the kneading for a simple plastering of a wall?

– what should we take into account when preparing and storing a paste of lime for the finish of a façade, compared to the lime we will use for a base lining?

– what additives can we use to alter the characteristics of a mortar according to the available raw material?

– how the colours are prepared and how they affect the mix, etc.

It seems interesting to us to tackle different materials and techniques at the same time, as well as to propose different supports on which to intervene (a brick wall is not the same as a stone wall, or an old plaster as a new one) in order to fully understand the possibilities at our reach. Throughout history, countless techniques have been put into practice according to the needs to be solved and the materials and capacities available, so we do not want to give recipes as much as provide sufficient knowledge to solve according to each case.

Course’s Sections

a. Techniques to test

To strengthen learning we will do tests on the following techniques:

– plastering lime and sand
– plaster stuccos ·lime stuccos + tadelakt type stuccos
– natural paintings + mineral coloring earths

Depending on the evolution of the course we can introduce more techniques, such as the mixture of lime and gypsum, graffiti, tiling, stained glass, clay mixtures, etc).

b. Theoretical cases: Your Projects! .

We will approach the cases that the participants want to share: the needs of your projects

– how can I do the plastering of an old dry stone wall?

– How can I intervene on walls that have already been plastered with cement?

– Under what conditions can I Run a continuous floor?

– How can I guarantee a good insulation?

– Α good waterproofing?

– How do I repair a plaster in poor condition?.

We will think together in the most convenient architectural solutions in each case, to connect our new capabilities with the complexity of a building according to their specific needs.

c. Practice: The real thing!

Finally, the great challenge, we will practice with a real case: the coating of some part of the beautiful project Re-Green, to test methods of design, organisation, costs, times, magnitudes, the distribution of work, how to make a good team, etc.

About the teachers – Luis & Monica
Luis Prieto Prieto is a craftsman, a stucco plaster master, with extensive experience in interior and exterior works of heritage and vernacular buildings. He learned the craft by family tradition and through various courses of ceramics and colorimetry in Higher Institutes of Crafts in Spain, Belgium and France. He works traditional techniques with materials artisanally produced. He researches, documents and disseminates these procedures. He has given practical lectures and workshops in many Spanish and Portuguese universities, in the Madridpainters’ union, in the Federación Nacional de Empresarios Pintores (ANSPI), in the Cal de Morón Museum, and in the Fundación Laboral de la Construcción. He is an Advisor and Editor at the National Qualifications Institute. He is co-author of the book Artes de los yesos.

Mónica Bujalance Moreta is an architect (Universidad Politécnica de Madrid) in love with self-management construction and natural matter and its artistic and liberating potential. She has been working as an artisan for some years, building without the use of cement or petrochemistry industry materials, as part of an experimental team based in horizontal relationships. She is now building in the forest playing the old slow way, experimenting permacultural values in her architecture.

Luis & Monica have offered courses together since 2014 with the aim of sharing our passions and provide future generations with a millinery culture in danger of extinction. Calling it ‘Recovery of constructive sovereignty’ (for the right of people to know the matter and its manipulation to build their houses).
Note: all skills and levels of knowledge and practice will be welcome. We can attend to different degrees of complexity at the same time, and we believe that this situation is very interesting for all the people who participate.

Re-Green & Yoga 24-30 Aug

Re-Green & Yoga – Life in a Permaculture Farm for a Week

This Summer Retreat is offered 20 – 26 July & 24 – 30 August.

For these 6 days our wish is to invite guests into the space of
Re-Green and feel at home, experiencing life here, Yoga and Permaculture together. Suitable for individuals, couples and families searching to integrate within the abundance of nature and all it has to offer.
Since the 1970’s people worldwide have adapted and experimented with permaculture and integrated it into their lifestyles and thinking. A system of designing life following natures example extending in all levels of how to perceive life, of how to assist re-generating the earth and live with it rather than on it – to manage a deeper understanding of oneself.
Allowing yourself to be immersed into a life of Permaculture & Natural living for a week can offer the experience to gain knowledge of how to implement new principles and practices into day to day life. A new experience in the mountains of Greece with fresh water to swim and opportunity to open to new experiences.

Caring for the earth begins with caring and nurturing oneself – thus we start the day with the option of practicing Yoga, a usual morning start at Re-Green. Through asana (physical exercise), pranayama, (breathing exercises) and meditation, we will create intentions for the day, become more mindful and aware of our own bodies and habits. Taking time to ‘retreat within’, observe our habits and express in a safe environment.
Classes will be taught by Amber Buckley ~ mornings offer an energetic hatha flow based lesson. (see bio below) Practicing movement, creating awareness of where the body holds tension and ways to release and connect to our natural state of freedom. Asana (poses) will be practiced with conscious breathing , finding stillness and space in the present moment. Afternoon Yoga restoration will focus on the nervous system and working with internal organs. All lessons are suitable from beginners to advanced levels and all ages with variations given to suit individual needs. The hand natural built Maloca creates a quiet calm space to breath and practice, including some outside classes within a nature walk and by the natural swimming pond.

As we move through the day after breakfast workshops include guided forest walks, active gardening, herbal knowledge -how to make oils, tinctures, teas, establishing a garden using permaculture principles, harvesting fruits and vegetables, interactive building with Natural materials. Plus spending time with our extended family of furry loved ones – dogs, cats, ducks, chickens and Maya our resident donkey who all continually love to receive affection, play and be cared for. The summer days are long in Greece and gives time to explore the local waterfalls and their cool flowing rhythm or relax at our natural swimming pond.

3 organic vegetarian meals are included daily and prepared by our resident chef with local produce most from our own garden. Fresh salads, greek cuisine, organic grains and fruit smoothies and wood fired pizza! are on the menu. Herbal teas and seasonal fruits are available all day long.

Who Are we?
Flery shall share her knowledge and studies, a wonderful combination of Ancient Greek, traditional Chinese and South American studies of holistic and natural herbal medicine. Her own personal experiences with these ailments and different uses and techniques to heal the body with natural medicine. She shares Permaculture practices and techniques to create a garden without any chemicals and the importance of every plant and its purpose. Creating awareness of the different seasons offering and how the body works so closely with natures examples. Christos grew up in Athens and got his Bachelor and Masters in computer engineering in the US. After working as an engineer for ten years in the telecommunication field and an International Formula 3 team, he felt the urge to change his city life, move to the countryside and reconnect with nature. Permaculture became his passion with a great interest in Natural Building. His engineering skills were transformed into designing and building houses and shelters using many different techniques, cob structures, natural plasters, rocket stoves, green roofs, wood ovens and anything that could be built with earth and materials that could be found in nature. Living in Re-Green for five years now and experimenting with many different practices, his experience has expanded into natural farming, renewable sources of energy, passive house architecture, water, earth works, composting and all that Pemaculture has to teach.

Wild Roots with Amit Carmeli 2018

21 days of the Wild Roots musical-breath journey {for experienced students only}.

After 17 years of delivering the Wild Roots experience I am so happy to invite you to the 4th 21 days retreat.

If you wish to deepen your connection with your wild and fearless Nature, with yourself, your life, your reality, your relations and your music.

The Wild Roots is a journey for freedom and for the pure healing that comes with it.
LOVE & TRUST flowing through your voice are like a river of sweet water in the middle of the vast desert- your body-your whole being.
Your community has no demands from you but your honest and truthful being! Your true Nature is breathing you and it is music!
Not a pop song but actually a very powerful song is being sung through you everyday the whole day and as long as you are alive!
The healing potential is perfect.

After these years of sharing so much and with so many of you…I am so happy that we have this privilege to explore deeper and deeper.

This journey is part of The Music School of Life and Love which I started in 2001.
It is indeed a music school of breath, love, sexuality, community, presence, communication, truth, freedom.
We are so needed by our communities and families, by our planet but what is it that is so needed?!
My dear Brother, My dear sister:
I wish to strengthen your trust in You. That is all that is needed.
Trust so we can all love innocently, freely and truthfully again.
When we walk trustfully in our bodies, we hear differently, we feel differently and we act differently.

What does it mean to be free?
What does it mean we are all One?
What does it mean that it is All a Vibration?
What does it mean to be harmonious and yet truthful in modern society, with our partners, with our reality?
How do we know the difference between right and wrong in the inner being?
What are the solutions being offered to us when we are connected to the One living source of life, silently!

In a prayer for better life and healthy planet, for healthy & loving relationships with all and with the Whole.

The word Health in Hebrew is Bari בריא which means also ‘’Created”.
When we greet each other for health, we are actually wish each other to be the way we were created!
The Wild Roots experience is designed to remind us all, in a very active and real way, that we are healthy and full of love. This love is pure music that wants to burst out of us through our voices, to open all our bodies and eventually to be given to all that is around us.

The retreat will take place at www.re-green.gr
A beautiful resort in the mountains near Athens.
All food is grown on the land and prepared by an amazing cook. There is a spring of fresh water just nearby.

About Wild Roots:

The Wild Root stands for life’s energy itself, the source of all creation in each human being. It is wild, yet amazingly harmonious, thanks to its wildness and not in spite of it. Every single movement we create in space, every sound-wave we initiate, is born out of our root’s attraction to harmony. Non-interference with this mysterious source within and serving as a neutral conductor to it is the secret and key of being free.

Our voice is a clear and immediate reflection of who we really are in this very moment. Listening and sensing our voice while singing, allows us to recognise our state of being on several different levels- our body rigidity or flexibility, our attachment to concepts or freedom from those – all reflecting our intimacy with harmony or the lack of it. Experiencing music through your body, breath and voice while surrendering to your Wild Root, allows for a perfect merging of the musical instrument – our body – with the unique music that we are. Letting the music breathe through you is a powerful act of healing. Singing melodies enables this healing breathing-pattern to happen. Body and soul are rearranged, whether we realise it or not.

Amit Carmeli

Musician, Vocal Artist, Music & Sound Healer.
Born in 1970, Israel.

‫”‬Since the day I started hearing music,I have realized, that the human voice is the ultimate instrument for the boundless expression of Music and Life; nevertheless, I have spent 20 years of playing, producing and arranging music without ever opening my mouth.

The simple wish for singing was life-transforming, for it revealed the true power of life’s creative energy. In my work I call this energy “Wild Root” and the teaching technique I have named ”Wild Roots Meditation”.

3 years of self exploration at the Carmel Mountains in the north of Israel, have made me realize and understand Life as Music and Music as Life.
Ever since, it has been 15 years of sessions and group workshops with people of all ages, exposing and empowering the vital creative force in each and every one of us.

Breathing music together with awareness and pure intention of goodness is a life-transforming process, teaching us about our nature and our longing for uniqueness and unity, harmony and wildness.”

Amit is a well known artist & music-producer in Israel, having played and performed with many of Israel’s top musicians over the past 20 years, including artist such as: The Fools of Prophecy (Shotei Hanevuah), Idan Raichel Project, Raichel-Farka tour, Berry Sacharov & Mosh Ben-Ari.

Re-Green & Yoga

A new experience in the mountains of Greece with fresh water to swim and opportunity to open to new experiences.Caring for the earth begins with caring and nurturing oneself – thus we start the day with the option of practicing Yoga, a usual morning start at Re-Green.

About the Maloca / shala
Our Maloca/shala is a 100sq/metre octagon, built with local, natural materials. A reciprocal beam structure roof covers the walls and windows hosting different natural techniques and is able to be heated by a very efficient wood burning rocket mass heater. It is entirely built by volunteers, helpers and ourselves and has pillows, carpets for comfort. Located within Re-Green’s property it overlooks the green forest on the south and the blue greek sea on the north. We simply love it and so much practice / healing there

Accommodation
Re-Green is not a hotel. We are an EcoCulture center and an active Permaculture farm. Our mission is the re-generation of the Earth by caring for our land everyday and by organising relevant educational workshops, seminars and retreats. We like to think that we offer shelter to our guests, inside the wilderness of the mountain, with the coziness and warmth of natural mattresses and private bathroom while guests are here to open, learn and expand in nature. We offer spacious and split level rooms.

Intuitive Farming: The Emerging Movement

The impulse for this event came when Eleni Gkikakis approached Dr Saskia von Diest to use the opportunity of her visit to Crete for the 13th European International Farming Systems Association Symposium, to present something specifically on intuitive farming. Saskia agreed, and Eleni introduced her to Flery, from Re-Green. Together, they welcome you to a one-day introductory event on the emerging movement of intuitive farming.

Please read the following information before booking your place. This is a one-day introductory event on the emerging movement of intuitive farming. Please read the following information before booking your place. We look forward to seeing you!

WHY ATTEND THIS EVENT?

Current large-scale agricultural practices will not be able to meet food security and sustainability challenges in the next decades, and a radical transformation of our food-growing practices is needed.
The use of intuition and other subtle abilities to make practical management decisions in a food-growing context, whether agricultural or gardening, has received little attention in scientific research until recently, but it is now fast becoming a new field of research. Researchers are learning that farmers prefer using these abilities, consciously or unconsciously, often with greater success than using tools designed using science. Their decisions are also often more ethical and in harmony with the balance offered by natural systems when using their subtle abilities consciously.

Some farmers and gardeners also make use of intuitive communication with nature to obtain more information about their plants, animals and landscape. They often see great benefits in doing so for their management decisions, such as reduced inputs, greater outputs and higher profits. But little is known about this in science.
The concept of communicating with nature is not new and appears to be a common thread in indigenous cultures worldwide. It is documented in books and documentaries, and practised in subsistence and small-scale farming, as well as in food production in eco-villages around the world, such as Findhorn Foundation, Damanhur and Auroville. Rudolf Steiner, the Austrian philosopher and founder of anthroposophy, mentioned it in his Biodynamic agriculture lectures, although it is often over-looked by biodynamic farming practitioners.
It is not known how information is transferred during intuitive communication. Although almost a century of scientific evidence supporting the concept of telepathy (human-to-human and interspecies) is possible, many scientists continue to dismiss it as pseudoscience. However, quantum physics has provided more widely accepted evidence for theories on how the universe operates at a sub-atomic, quantum or energetic level, so the concept is receiving renewed attention.

Regardless of the mechanism behind these subtle abilities, it is clear that they are useful to food-growers, because many already use them. Researching the use and development of intuition and interspecies communication in agriculture is already part of the urgent radical transformation needed to improve efficiency and sustainability.
But as the urgency increases, one of the most important questions is: HOW do we empower and assist farmers in developing their subtle abilities, to more consciously and confidently make more efficient management decisions that are in harmony with nature? In this one-day introductory workshop, we will be focusing on the theory and practical development tools towards answering this question.

WHAT TO EXPECT

– A brief presentation on the latest scientific advances in using intuition and interspecies communication for food-growing and gardening (Saskia)
– Q&A session and dynamic group discussion (Saskia and Eleni)
– An exploration on basic practical development techniques for intuition and interspecies communication. This may be outside, so please bring a hat, natural insect repellent and sunscreen (Saskia and Eleni)

The event will be presented in English, but questions can be answered in Greek by Eleni, if needed.

SASKIA BIO

Dr Saskia von Diest obtained her PhD in Plant Pathology in 2013, and from 2014 until 2017 she held a postdoctoral research position at Stellenbosch University, South Africa, to explore quantum-based techniques and technologies in agriculture, such as those using sound, electromagnetics and intuitive abilities. Her passion for knowledge extension from research to practice inspired her to bring various international experts to host workshops in South Africa, and build a wide network of farmers, technical advisors and researchers for this emerging field of resaerch.
She currently holds a joint postdoctoral research position at the Centre for Complex Systems in Transition, Stellenbosch University and the Centre for Agroecology, Water and Resilience, Coventry University, UK, to further explore the practice and development of intuitive farming.
Part of her work is helping to critically evaluate how modern science can be applied for this kind of research, to help develop new methodologies for intuitive farming and for agricultural research in general. She uses transdisciplinary, participatory and transformative research approaches, co-creating with those who practice food-growing, who play the most important role in the story of this emerging movement.

ELENI BIO

Eleni Gkikakis holds a BSc Hons in Mass Communication and Media Arts from Southern Illinois University, USA. During her studies she specialized in Marketing and Advertising of companies in the service sector and minored in Speech Communication and International Relations. Since her return to Greece after her studies, she worked in the Client Service departments of numerous national and multinational advertising agencies.
Her childhood love for nature and animals caught up with her, and inspired by Juliette De Bairacli Levy, she pursued independent studies on holistic nutrition therapy, naturopathy and herbalism. In 2006 she completed her Diploma in Veterinary Homeopathy and founded White Flower Holistic Animal Care. Her understanding of subtle energies led her to develop her intuitive interspecies communication ability with well-known South African animal communicators Anna Breytenbach and Wynter Worsthorne. Her now uses these skills in her work on a daily basis, with much success and to the surprise of conventional veterinary practitioners.
Eleni also gets actively involved in numerous conservation projects in Africa, such as the Global White Lion Protection Trust, and independent peacemaking groups. Since 2016 she is a devoted and active member of Dr Jane Goodall’s Roots & Shoots Greece.

Holistic Herbal Wisdom 2018

**For Greek please scroll down

In such modern times that we live we are surrounded/besieged by manufactured scents, unhealthy and expensive cosmetics and chemical drugs that seemingly help yet ultimately burden our body, poor quality synthetic food/diet and misinformation …
My need to escape this slavery and live in harmony with my body and the environment has led me to study plants and natural medicine, herbs and essential oils. My teachers have been schools of natural healing but also the witches-grandmothers from the Greek countryside. The knowledge I have collected is my treasure and increases year after year. This knowledge I want to share with/convey to you, so you can become the master of your own health and take your health into your own hands (Body and Mind).
In this workshop/school we will learn how to collect and harvest herbs properly, how to prepare our home pharmacy for the winter, how to make homemade cosmetics and healing remedies (syrups, herbal tinctures, herbal oils, bee wax creams, sun screens, creams), how to make natural soaps with rich aromas from essential oils rather than chemical substitutes. How to make earth friendly natural cleaning products and children friendly remedies. We will also learn the basics about herbal therapy, the spices and herbs in the kitchen and the garden, how to properly use the essential oils that are the most powerful herbal extracts with tremendous therapeutic effects and we shall discuss about detoxing and healing through our diet. Besides, lets not forget: “we are what we eat”.

Holistic Herbal Home

Our wonderful teachers –
Note from Dr. Rod Everett
I was brought up in a beautiful valley surrounded by wise trees, talkative birds, inquisitive mammals, fleeting butterflies and the musical River Roeburn. They have taught me much over the years along with dog companions, who have shown me hidden places and allowed me to interact with nature. I have been very privileged to still be living in the same valley as I played as a child.
Lea Harrison ran a teacher training course and advanced design course in our house in 1990. This started most of the UK Permaculture design teachings – out was a great course.
Later I participated in a creative teaching course with Skye. This really inspired me and has been the stimulant for my teaching technique. Whole body learning enables the permaculture principles to become an integral part of your life.
My great friend and co teacher Mill MilliChap brings his knowledge and skill of growing food for many years and living a thoughtful and simpler life. He always adds his wealth of knowledge and enthusiasm for life to our joint courses.
